Robbie Ellis, a certified legend on the north-east independent wrestling scene, passed away on 7 August at 82 years old.

Born Robert Jason Elowitch in Portland, Maine, Ellis, an art dealer-turned-pro wrestler, was subject to extensive media coverage, with a documentary being screened at various international film festivals across 2010 and 2011. Between the ropes, he is perhaps best recognisable to modernistic audiences for his short spell as the kayfabe, on-screen proprietor of CHIKARA.

With a public career spanning more than five decades, Robbie has been duly lauded for his societal contributions and the work he put into the north-east wrestling circuit, taking his rightful seat in the New England Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2008.
