4 Ups & 2 Downs From AEW Rampage (18 May - Results & Review)

1. AEW Could’ve Made More Of It All

Here's an extension of the prior point.

It still feels like Tony could've done more with these 3-hour blocks of telly. There were a lot of matches for the sake of matches across both Collision and Rampage, which was a wasted opportunity. Sure, the wrestling was fun to watch (more to come on that), but too few things in the entire block came across as essential beyond an immediate good wrestling fix in the moment.

Being brutally honest, it definitely doesn't feel like the company's big tentpole pay-per-view of the year is next weekend. Double Or Nothing should have everybody at a fever pitch, and yet most of the card's matches mentioned on Collision and Rampage came out looking less-than. Is this the harsh consequence of AEW adding more PPVs?

Rampage opened with a Young Bucks vid encouraging everybody to have a great show and the message: "Let's go". Sadly, the way AEW handles their build these days is akin to The Bucks in character deliberately sabotaging everything with a sinister smile.

More could be done to make All Elite thrilling again.
