4 Ups & 2 Downs From AEW Rampage (Aug 11)

2. Some Simple Storytelling

Darby Allin Luchasaurus

Post-match, Christian Cage sent Luchasaurus out to reverse chokeslam Darby.

That simple piece of storytelling let the announcers talk about Cage's tyranny, the fact Lucha is the actual TNT Champ, and that Christian still has a problem with Allin. It was straightforward, didn't gobble up a lot of time and got something you'd usually see kept back for Dynamite on Rampage.

No arguments here - AEW should be booking this sort of fare more often. Fingers crossed they will, because it's a smart use of the extra hour they're locked into on Friday nights. Rampage must become a bridge between Dynamite and Rampage. It's possible to bung a few hot bouts on the show and tell some stories.

Granted, it might be nice if TK let one story breathe without another butting in. Darby and Sting team together against Swerve Strickland and AR Fox at All In (in a 'Coffin Match', no less), so this could probs have waited. It does look like they've got Allin vs. Cage/Luchasaurus in mind for All Out, to be fair.
