4 Ups & 2 Downs From AEW Rampage (Sept 29 - Results & Review)

1. It Didn’t Really Hype The PPV

Rampage could've done a better job overall of hyping up Sunday's PPV.

This might well be the least important feeling AEW supershow to date. Sure, All Out came across that way before it happened and turned out to be a nice surprise, but...can TK pull that off again? Matches like Bryan Danielson vs. Zack Sabre Jr and Christian Cage vs. Darby Allin will need to do most of the heavy lifting.

Almost everything else comes across as totally secondary and skippable, which isn't great. None of the hype AEW delivered via Rampage got tongues wagging about WrestleDream, so it was an hour wasted. Maybe Collision on Saturday will do a better job of that - it might need to.

This is going to be a persistent worry if AEW heaps more pay-per-views onto the calendar. Each one should feel special, but WrestleDream (admittedly lovely Inoki tribute stuff aside) just doesn't. It's as 'B' show as it gets, and the lack of true excitement for most matches on Rampage proved it.
