4 Ups & 2 Downs From WWE SmackDown (9 Aug - Results & Review)
Ups...
4. Basic Set-Up Just Scores An ‘Up’
This barely qualified as one, but let's roll with it.
Jade Cargill beat Alba Fyre in just two minutes. That's too short to really mean anything, and the bout did feel like a throwback to Jade's AEW TBS Title days on Rampage, but a fun post-match brawl suggests there's more to come. Hopefully, all of this will help the heel trio (Fyre, Isla Dawn and Blair Davenport) announce themselves.
Jade, Bianca Belair and Naomi vs. the revamped Unholy Union in a six-woman tag match does sound decent, and it serves several masters. Firstly, Cargill will still get protected by the number of bodies flying around. Second, Davenport will maybe even get to score the win for her side by pinning Naomi.
Third, everything new deserves a chance.
It'd be a bit silly to blast WWE for trying with these women. OK, so booking matches that run 120 seconds won't do anybody any favours, but that's forgivable due to the story context surrounding Jade vs. Alba. In short, creative gets a pass here. Just don't make a habit of matches this brief!
