4 Ups & 3 Downs From AEW Rampage (April 20 - Results & Review)

RVD jets in to save the day and this week's Rampage gets an AEW "exclusive".

This week's live Rampage had two clear mission statements.

One: Promote a key undercard match on the weekend's Dynasty pay-per-view. Two: Nostalgic fan service for folks who love them some Rob Van Dam and vintage ECW. AEW smashed both goals, but there's also a sense they missed a trick that might've lured some more viewers to Rampage's usual Friday night slot.

Tony Khan's pro wrestling fandom is well-known, and it's something a lot of people find charming about him. After all, you know you're gonna see some great wrestling when the actual owner is a self-confessed hardcore fanboy. However, that approach does lead to a lack of broad picture cohesion on AEW programming that's difficult to ignore.

Rampage laid it bare. Whilst it was fab to see RVD, he stood out for the wrong reasons too. Also, this writer isn't sure one of the show's matches did anything other than make All Elite Wrestling look like a hotbed for disjointed ideas and niche wrestling styles few will ever care about as much as Khan.

The fact there were "4 Ups" compared to "3 Downs" does suggest Saturday night's third hour had some good moments though. It definitely, definitely did - it's just...well, Rampage should have more of them.

Here's all the good and bad!
