4 Ups & 3 Downs From AEW Rampage (May 5)

3. The Right Man Won

Mark Briscoe AEW
AEW

What a sweet moment that was when Mark Briscoe beat Preston Vance then invited his family into the ring for a hug and celebration. No, turning heel and ditching the match hasn't done a thing for Vance, but he provided a solid-enough base for Briscoe to bump around on Friday night.

Besides, Mark is the more interesting character anyway.

There were audible gasps when Briscoe took a nasty chair edge to the kidneys following one of his dive spots, but he was alright (thankfully) and didn't seem to miss a beat. Mark then gave Preston most of the match before firing back for the closing stretch. He nailed that comeback.

Again, Tony Khan gave these boys a nice amount of time to work with. They needed that, because Briscoe taking a beating before rallying to score the win in front of his kids was really the whole story. This admittedly-unplanned singles run for Mark is nonetheless heartening. He's having a hoot out there, and that tugs at the heartstrings.
