4 Ups & 3 Downs From WWE Chronicle: Samoa Joe
Downs...
3. Joe Comes Across As A Genuinely Good Guy
One of the first major problems with this episode of Chronicle is that Joe is a genuinely thoughtful, interesting man who's rather hard to dislike in real life. That's jarring, especially at the moment when he's supposed to be a cruel, callous heel on SmackDown willing to risk breaking up AJ Styles' family if it gets him the WWE Title.
Somehow, WWE's directors believed it'd be a good idea to focus on the fact Joe himself is a strong family man who cares endlessly for those closest to him. By doing so, they outed him to the casual viewer as someone with moral values to be proud of.
There's a main thread of appreciation running through Chronicle, and it's obvious from the start that Joe is not only supremely driven and ambitious, he's someone who has no problem saying thanks for opportunity and making the most of it. That hardly ties in with the dirt bag fans are watching on SmackDown right now.
Lines are blurred all over the place, and it makes the film difficult to stay invested in for the full 45 minutes. That's a shame.
