No shocker here, but Drew McIntyre vs. Randy Orton was good enough to be on any WWE PLE. These guys have done great things together before, and they could work watchable matches in their sleep. That's meant as a compliment though - they didn't phone it in or snooze their way through SmackDown's main event. It was a fine, logical and well-worked match that put an emphasis on Drew working Randy's leg.

Typically, McIntyre might not do that sort of thing, but he spotted a weakness and went after it. It's easy to get onboard with that kind of layout. Also, it was lovely to then see Drew score a win using his Claymore Kick finisher in a major match. He'd actually clocked Randy with one earlier (there was some blood on Orton's forehead after that), but the 'Viper' rolled out of harm's way to avoid a pin.

A sign in the crowd said, “Drew Deserves The Title”. Perhaps, but he ain’t getting it from Cody Rhodes at Wrestlepalooza. Still, what a slick match between McIntyre and Orton. Again, having Drew score the clean win with his finish puts over how dangerous that Claymore is ahead of the title shot. Admittedly, that was the case anyway due to the move’s history and the fact it put Cody on the shelf weeks ago, but yes.

There was plenty to sink your teeth into between this and Cody's return post-match. That was an essential add on to what must be considered an unnamed number one contendership fight between 2 big time heavyweights.

Good times.
