4 Ups & 4 Downs From Last Night's WWE NXT (Nov 18)

3. Solid Destruction From Dawson & Wilder

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q46CpUdRWDg Hot off their dominant victory over The Vaudevillains last week, Dawson & Wilder ran through a team of hapless jobbers in a solid furtherance of their 'No Flips, Just Fists' gimmick. The two roughneck, old-school bruisers crushed their competition in smart, logical fashion: work a body part for a while, and if that fails hit them with the double finisher. Is it hipster to like Dawson & Wilder? Their wrestling style was the mainstream model for many decades, made famous by teams like The Minnesota Wrecking Crew & The Horsemen. It was so much the norm that the more acrobatic style propagated by young high flyers emerged as an alternative to it. But now that style has become so popular that the bruiser style has emerged as the alternative to that, as an almost ironic affectation. That's really odd, and makes my brain hurt a bit. Still, there's no doubt that the so-old-it's-new approach is working gangbusters for Dawson and Wilder right now. As long as they remain strategic in approach and focused in attack, their anti-charisma charisma should carry them to a permanent place at the top of the NXT tag division.
