4 Ups & 4 Downs From WWE SmackDown (12 Dec - Results & Review)

2. Why Has Nick Aldis Flipped?

To date, Nick Aldis has done a fine job in the role of SmackDown GM. He looks the part, carries himself well, doesn't cave in to heel demands out of fear, and has generally taken to the gig like a duck might to water. Unfortunately, this week's show made Nicky boy look like an absolute moron. WWE really should've stopped to think about what they were doing.

Aldis previously suspended Drew McIntyre for attacking a referee, but is now actively campaigning to get Drew back on his show. Huh? There’s a logic gap there, because McIntyre hasn’t shown any contrition that’d make Nick’s forgiveness understandable. Cody Rhodes isn’t even questioning it himself. Granted, he wants the Scot to be reinstated so he can beat the snot out of him inside the ring for his WWE Title, but why is the GM so keen to let that happen when he'd been trying to stop the pair from fighting?

In fact, Nick's entire character over the past month or so has been an exasperated one. He's watched on helplessly as Drew repeatedly undermined his authority, then finally had to step in and punish the heel for laying hands on an official. Now, for no rhyme or reason, Aldis is magically working on McIntyre's behalf?!

WWE didn't even try to justify this on Friday's show. If nothing else, surely Cody should've been scratching his noggin and asking Nick why he's had such a change of heart. Nope, didn't happen. The loudest plot points went untouched on SmackDown.
