4 Ups & 5 Downs From AEW Rampage (Sept 2)

Ups...

4. Rey Fenix = Exhibition Superstar

Rey Fenix is being hyped as one of the main contenders in Sunday's 'Casino Ladder Match' to determine a new challenger for the AEW World Title. That's a lofty spot for the tag-teamer, and he was always going to need a win or two pre-All Out before that story resonated.

Good news: AEW came through for Fenix on Friday.

The masked man scored a nice little TV win over Blake Christian. There was a lot to like in this match - JR added context by mentioning Blake's New Japan dreams ('Best Of The Super Juniors', baby!), and Rey gave Christian some licks so he didn't look like a complete jobber out there.

Fenix' rope work is also something else, and the bout's finish looked sweet. This, considering it was a short four-minute exhibition win for Rey, was as good as AEW must've hoped when they scheduled it. Fingers crossed Blake gets another, more competitive showing on Rampage soon.
