4 Ups & 5 Downs From Impact Wrestling Genesis 2021

4. It Was Inevitable

Ace Austin vs. Suicide was a dire way to start the Super X Cup.

For starters, we weren't expecting anything other than an Ace victory here. Suicide, although once an important member of the roster, shouldn't be defeating a man of Ace's calibre, especially when you consider the previous year had by the youngster. They could have made up for that in the in-ring department, of course, but they didn't. It's as simple as that, sadly. Instead, Austin and Suicide wasted their time, with a naff Death Valley Driver being one of the only real "highlights".

Ace would indeed win the bout following one of his more basic executions of The Fold, and that was that. Considering some of the other opening-round matches, it was a surprise to see this chosen to kick off not only the tournament, but the special as a whole.

This shouldn't be taken as a blight on either man's record as it wasn't necessarily a terrible match, however, it could have been better. It certainly needed to be, anyway.
