4 Ups & 5 Downs From Impact Wrestling Genesis 2021
2. Oh Deaner, Where Art Thou?
Cousin Jake vs. Daivari had the potential to be a great clash.
Keep in mind, Cousin Jake is in the midst of a fierce story arc opposite Eric Young, Joe Doering, and the newly heel Deaner (sans the Cody). With a three-on-three encounter against that trio signed for Hard To Kill, it made absolutely zero sense that there was no sight of Young, Doering, or Deaner at Genesis. Why would they be fine with Cousin Jake possibly heading into next weekend's pay-per-view with the Super X Cup trophy?
As for the actual match itself, there weren't any truly memorable highlights that stand out. Jake tried on too many occasions for a Black Hole Slam, while Daivari set his sights on Jake's leg, despite the Deaner cousin actually hurting his throat in the middle of the match. Certain parts didn't add up here.
A big sitout powerbomb and (eventual) Black Hole Slam led to Cousin Jake's advancement to the semifinals in a tournament that didn't really mean anything as far as he's concerned. You had the chance to continue a Hard To Kill story, and do something useful with Daivari. As great as both men are, we can't look past these oversights in terms of logical storytelling.
