4 Ups & 5 Downs From WWE Raw (27 May - Results & Review)

1. A Dull, Uneventful Cage Match

Becky Lynch
WWE

One would think a steel cage match for the Women’s World Championship involving Becky Lynch would be a fun, violent experience, but they’d be dead wrong.

Monday Night Raw’s main event saw Liv Morgan successfully defend her title against Lynch in a very basic, uneventful match that featured a lot of climbing and a lot of ramming each other into the cage. Despite that, the match didn’t feel particularly violent or even aggressive at time, but rather, it felt like two wrestlers going through the motions of hitting all their marks and using all four sides of the cage.

Everything seemed to be predicated on the closing sequence of events dominating the tone and tenor of the match. Unfortunately, that’s exactly what happened.

Dominik Mysterio came down to ringside to ostensibly help Becky, as did Finn Balor and JD McDonagh. This brought out Braun Strowman to chase JD, and he knocked Dom into the open door, which then slammed on Lynch’s head. This allowed Morgan to crawl out of the ring to win a horribly disappointing match.

Even with all that ga-ga at the end, the match itself was lifeless. Liv forcing a kiss on Dominik felt tacked on, though more might come to light in the coming weeks that it’s actually mutual.
