UPS…

4. Getting Down To Basics

Ludwig Kaiser Sheamus
WWE

Sheamus has not had the most explosive run since returning to action recently, but the Celtic Warrior has somewhat transcended the need to jump right into the grind of weekly television wrestling.

After losing in the first round of the King of the Ring tournament, Sheamus took time to recover from a knee injury caused by Ludwig Kaiser. Gunther’s running buddy took to the mic in recent weeks to berate Sheamus, calling him a “keyboard warrior” and questioning his physical fitness to continue wrestling. This very obviously set up a feud upon the brawler’s return, which came Monday night.

Sheamus wasted little time in calling out “that glorified coatrack” for a fight, but Kaiser instead taunted from backstage, drawing the Celtic Warrior to the back, where Ludwig jumped him. They brawled for a bit before officials broke it up, and a match was set for next week.

This might seem overly basic, but it really is a fundamental, simple and effective angle, all of which grew out of a KOTR match: Kaiser mocks the man he injured for a few weeks, Sheamus returns to get revenge, and a match gets booked.

Sheamus has reached that status of not needing to be in the grind. He can just show up to fight select matches and always rely on getting a great reaction from fans. (Rey Mysterio is another wrestler who fits this mold.) And next week’s match should be tremendous fun.
