4 Ups & 5 Downs From WWE Raw (27 May - Results & Review)

3. A DQ Finish, But…

Ricochet Bron Breakker Ilja Dragunov
WWE

Ricochet going into a match against Ilja Dragunov with taped-up ribs seemed to telegraph the finish: the Highlight of the Night puts up a great fight but comes up short, succumbing to his injury with the Raw newcomer gaining more steam.

For a good while, this seemed to be tracking perfectly, with Ricochet seriously favoring those ribs and Dragunov targeting them before Ricochet started making an improbable comeback, catching Ilja with a Recoil for a near-fall and hitting a Shooting Star Press to tip the scales even more in his favor before Bron Breakker ran in and speared both men for the DQ.

Breakker was supposed to be suspended, and that drew Adam Pearce’s ire, as he lit into Bron afterward. The notion here is that Bron is a loose cannon who can’t be controlled (kind of like his uncle) and even the announcers were openly questioning whether Pearce was regretting drafting Breakker to Raw given the chaos of the past two weeks.

For Ricochet and Dragunov, a respectful – but fierce – rivalry isn’t a bad thing to cast both in a positive light – for now. And Breakker channeling his family for inspiration isn’t the worst idea either. It could be a fun ride causing headaches for Pearce, but it also could fall apart and become a tired, hackneyed “rebellious hothead attacks people” gimmick quickly.
