4 Ups & 5 Downs From WWE WrestleMania 39 Night 2 (Review)

1. Intercontinental War

A Scot, an Irishman and an Austrian walk into a bar… and 20 minutes later, the bar is leveled to the ground.

Drew McIntyre, Sheamus and Gunther absolutely demolished each other in Sunday’s triple threat for the Ring General’s Intercontinental Championship. If you thought Gunther/Sheamus at Clash at the Castle was the hardest-hitting WWE match you’ve seen in years, this one probably easily replaced it. All three men chopped each other until their chests looked like hamburger. The stiff shots never stopped, as they rarely went for a hold.

Sheamus looked to be closing in on his first IC title after an avalanche White Noise and a Celtic Cross on Gunther, but McIntyre saved. Drew looked to win off a Claymore, Sheamus off a Brogue, and Gunter off a powerbomb, but the fight continued as each man kicked out of the bombs they threw at each other. In the end, it was Gunter powerbombing Sheamus onto Drew and then delivering one more powerbomb on McIntyre to retain his title.

Just an absolutely fantastic war that had people simultaneously cringing and cheering for joy. Tremendous stuff.
