4 Ups & 5 Downs From WWE WrestleMania 39 Night 2 (Review)

3. Shane’s Back… And Gone

When WWE really tries to put on a good, engaging sports entertainment program, they often succeed. But when their failed soap opera writers try to do comedy or straight entertainment, that’s when things can go off the rails horribly.

Witness Miz and Snoop Dogg announcing the totally real attendance for Sunday’s event. Miz – who was totally fine with Snoop during the intro – suddenly had a bone to pick with the Doggfather about putting him in a match with Pat McAfee Saturday night. (Miz, a two-time WWE Champion, was upset about wrestling an announcer and podcaster.)

Snoop got back in Miz’s face and introduced another surprise opponent: Shane McMahon. Dear God no. And then seconds into the “match,” Shane blew out his knee on a leapfrog and things died. That’s when Snoop got back in the ring and laid Miz out and dropped a People’s Elbow, pinning a two-time world champion off two punches and a crappy elbow from a 51-year-old rapper.

There’s stretching things for entertainment’s sake, and then there’s just utter crap that has no place on TV… and this was clearly the latter.
