4 Ups & 6 Downs From WWE Crown Jewel 2024 (Results & Review)

2. A Stellar Main Event

Questionable result for a gaudy belt aside, Cody Rhodes and Gunther killed it in the Crown Jewel main event.

The two battered each other, with Gunther chopping Cody down repeatedly and Rhodes gritting his teeth and as he constantly fought back to get into the match. Gunther worked the back, making it initially impossible for Cody to slam the Ring General, so when he did, the crowd lost it. Gunther plucked Cody out of the air when he went for a Disaster Kick and turned it into a Boston Crab, then did it again later, grabbing Rhodes with a sleeper when he dove for a Cody Cutter.

The finish provided a nice bit of a callback, with Cody flipping back from that sleeper into a pinfall, ala Bret Hart – the same Hall-of-Famer Gunther badmouthed last month. Great touch there.
