4 Ups & 6 Downs From WWE Saturday Night's Main Event (12 July - Results & Review)
4. A Nothing Match
There was a time in the not-too-distant past when Randy Orton versus Drew McIntyre was a serious, major title program in WWE, with the two battling over the WWE Championship in four singles matches during a three-month span in 2020.
Saturday, that rivalry continued with a one-on-one match to set up a tag match for SummerSlam, with Logan Paul… and Jelly Roll.
This match was a whole lot of nothing, less than nine minutes with a commercial break wedged in there. Additionally, the closing minutes became a melodrama on the floor between Logan and Jelly Roll, which gave way to McIntyre inexplicably stopping to argue with the singer and then walk into an RKO for the pin.
In the building, this got a huge reaction, but on a couch watching on television? This was a groan-inducing shadow of the match it could have been. There’s also something very strange about building a celebrity tag match for a Big Four PLE with an Orton/McIntyre match. But this is sports entertainment in 2025.
