4 Ups & 7 Downs From WWE Hell In A Cell 2020
6. The Wrong Kind Of Finish
Heading into Sunday’s PPV match between Elias and Jeff Hardy, the sensible finish seemed clear: Elias just returned from injury and (rightly or wrongly) was seeking revenge for Hardy allegedly injuring him. Elias has an album debuting on Raw Monday night, so it made sense for him to win.
So naturally, Hardy walloped Elias with a guitar, causing a DQ. Because this feud demands that it must continue, possibly with a guitar-on-a-pole match.
Seriously, this is why people are so frustrated with WWE. Elias could have used a definitive PPV win – even the announcers were tipping their hand toward this and its significance – in his return, and you could have continued the feud by having Hardy come out and plead his case to set up a rematch.
Few wrestlers have the ability to lose the occasional feud and still be considered an upper-card threat like Hardy. Why not use the opportunity to put over Elias and move forward rather than drag things out further?
