4 Ups & 7 Downs From WWE Hell In A Cell 2020

4. An Ounce Of Foresight Would Be Nice

So for the first time in 10 years, The Miz is Mr. Money in the Bank. You’d think a former world champion holding the briefcase would be an upgrade from a former tag team wrestler and mid-card comedy guy like Otis, but that’s not quite true.

Miz literally hadn’t won a match in six months before Sunday. His last win came in April. Since then, he lost 13 straight until Hell in a Cell, including a tag match on Raw last week. And yes, while he’s predominantly been a tag wrestler for a while, it’s worth noting that Miz’s last singles win came in January.

If WWE had any inkling that Miz would be reclaiming the MITB briefcase – which would put him one opportune cash-in away from being a world champion again – they should have treated him as something more than a mid-card goof. So either the writers didn’t know until at most five days ago that Miz was winning the briefcase, or they did and still continued to treat him as one step above a comedy act.

Whether you agreed with Otis as the MITB winner, at least he was booked strongly – he had lost only one match since winning the briefcase until Sunday.
