UPS…

4. Salvaging An IC Title Match

WWE Raw Kofi Kingston Penta
WWE

No one heading into Monday’s Intercontinental Championship match believed that Kofi Kingston was going to shock Penta and capture the title, but they should have been able to rely on a highly entertaining, well-wrestled match between the two veterans.

What they got was a mostly mediocre contest that had a few flashes of quality before the closing moments pulled it up a few notches. Penta catching Kofi’s diving trust fall to the floor and turning it into a back suplex on the announce desk was completely unexpected, as was Kingston countering a top rope dive with a Trouble in Paradise for a close two count.

The subplot to this match involved Grayson Waller wanting to help Kofi by attacking Penta, but Kingston insisted on wrestling this match on his own merits, telling Waller to stay out of it repeatedly. Of course, this then backfired and Kofi lost, so there will be tension there, but the fact Kingston went the honorable route could score points with Je’Von Evans and Kofi’s efforts to recruit him.

Call this a harmless little match that no one will ever replay, but no one will regret having watched.
