4 Ups & 7 Downs From WWE Raw (March 14)
3. ‘This Makes No Sense’
When the heel says something that rings 100% true, you know you’re doing it wrong.
Seth Rollins, despondent about not having a clear path to WrestleMania (that alone is a crock and should be worthy of its own “down”), devised a plan and called out Kevin Owens to discuss it. He stupidly suggested that he host his own talk show at Mania and also have Steve Austin as his guest.
Owens rightly called it a bad idea, noting that they already had one talk show. This led Rollins to challenge Owens to a match Monday night, with the winner getting the talk show, kind of a Highlander for wrestler talk shows.
Worse, Sonya Deville showed up to act like a GM and said she liked the idea of a guy swooping in and copying someone else’s idea and stealing it for his own and booked the match. KO was livid, noting that he came up with the idea and goaded Stone Cold into coming, and Austin already had accepted to fact Owens, not Rollins.
And that’s the problem here: Forget anything that happened after this segment. You can’t say, “Well, the ends justified the means.” What if Austin refuses to show up to confront Rollins? He’s coming to whoop Owens’ a**. The booking has to make sense or else it just falls apart. Rollins was delirious, which is fine, but Deville booking the match makes zero sense in the storyline.
