4 Ups And 4 Downs From Last Night's WWE SmackDown (June 4)
2. The Show Opening Promo Was Actually Worthwhile
The show opening promo that happens every week on Raw and Smackdown is annoying, but at least this week on Smackdown we can say that WWE Champion Seth Rollins delivered a worthwhile promo. Dean Ambrose showed up for the end of it too, at least on the video screen. Rollins has become a very good promo man. He wasn't always although he showed in this instance that he could speak with confidence and make it sound very believable. Rollins spoke about how he didn't need any help in The Authority and that he's going to retrieve what he rightfully earned - the WWE Championship. Ambrose did a promo in a backstage area while standing behind a ladder with the WWE Title in his hands. It didn't make him look like a tough babyface to do it from backstage instead of doing it in the arena, but it was still effective. Ambrose said that the past year of dealing with The Authority and Rollins has led to him getting stronger. He ended it by saying he was walking out with the gold that he currently has in his possession even though Rollins is really the champion. It would have been nice to see Rollins or Ambrose in a match or to get physically involved at some point in the show. The reason they were likely kept off is because they did enough on Raw, so they are trying to keep them apart to make people anticipate their match at Money in the Bank on June 14. From a storyline standpoint, if The Authority wants Ambrose to give up the title then why not book him in a match on Raw or Smackdown in order to get the title from him? All we want is for these storylines to makes sense, after all. Rollins wanting to prove himself as a legit champion is a good storyline especially after he wins the ladder match clean (assuming that's the plan) and then has to deal with Brock Lesnar next.
