4 Ups And 4 Downs From Last Night's WWE Smackdown (May 7)

1. Contract Signings Should Not Main Event TV Shows

WWE loves contract signings. We all know that. They use them as a way to have competitors brawl in the ring to set up a future match. When fans hear that a Contract Signing is set to take place they know what to expect because it happens nearly every time. We see them almost every month. It's too often. With that said, WWE made a mistake in putting this as a main event segment. Yes, it makes sense to put Rollins, Orton, Ambrose and Reigns in a segment to hype up the Payback main event, but it just didn't feel like a main event. I can remember going to a Smackdown taping in 2011 where the main event of the broadcast was Randy Orton doing a contract signing with Mark Henry. It was such a boring segment that it made people walk out early even though there was a 45 minute Edge appreciation night after the show was over. Contract signings aren't that exciting and when they are the main event of a show it's a turn off for the fans. We don't want to watch 15 minute promos to end the show. We want action. Give us that.
