4 Ups And 4 Downs From Last Night's WWE Smackdown (May 7)
2. The Tag Match Formula Strikes Again
The biggest problem with WWE programming is that their shows are too predictable and formulaic. Smackdown is the most predictable of their shows because nearly every week they either do a promo or some sort of segment to lead to a tag match. It's as if they have no idea how to set up these matches without reverting to this formula. This week they went to the formula again after the opening match with King Barrett taking on Dolph Ziggler. They worked for about four minutes when Sheamus showed up to attack Ziggler and double team him with Barrett. Neville made the save, which led to a tag match between these guys. The tag match was good and will be mentioned in the Ups section, but certainly WWE could have set it up in a less predictable way. Is the creative team paid to be creative? It comes off as so lazy. A lot of people used to joke about how Teddy Long would always book tag matches when he was GM, but the creative team is still doing it even after Long is gone. Old habits die hard as they say.
