4 Ups And 6 Downs From Last Night's WWE NXT (May 27)

Downs..

6. TakeOver Fallout Was Not Fully Exploited

After the sugar rush comes the inevitable comedown. Unlike the Raw after Wrestlemania, however, NXT struggled to present anything even approaching the excitement of the previous week's show. The matches were all fine but, aside from Bayley and Emma, the matches were all one-sided affairs, designed to showcase the victors from Unstoppable, and they never felt like their had enough of a competitive edge to make them truly engaging. Solomon Crowe was an interesting addition to the main event, but ultimately didn't put up much of a challenge. It's unreasonable to expect a huge amount of fireworks and glitz from last night's show, but a little more storyline fallout would have made the show feel richer. Finn Balor's status as the number 1 contender was barely addressed (the number of feuds Kevin Owens has are too numerous right now), there was no appearance from Becky Lynch or Sasha Banks (except in video package), ditto Enzo and Cass, and Samoa Joe, as exciting as it is to see him, simply repeated his schtick from Unstoppable. Until Kevin Owens is done with Cena, or a new challenger emerges for the Women's title, it feels a little like NXT is stalling for time, not quite ready to set off on the next leg of its journey.
