4 Ups And 9 Downs From WWE Legends Raw (Jan 4)

3. WWE’s Favorite Tag Team Trope

After giving the Hurt Business high marks in the year-end column, WWE saw fit Monday night to make sure the group had a terrible night on the first Raw of 2021. And they did it in part by relying on their favorite trope: tag partners who can’t get along.

You see, Shelton Benjamin & Cedric Alexander have been gelling too well for too long, so the only way to make money is to sow seeds of dissension and have them eventually break up. Oh, and if they can do it while they’re Raw Tag Team Champions, it’s even better. Because who needs to have a cohesive team as your tag champs?

Shelton and Cedric started arguing over tags during their match against Lucha House Party (a duo who has spent more time chasing after the 24/7 Championship in the past couple months than anything else). Lince Dorado took advantage and grabbed a rollup on Benjamin, defeating the tag champs.

There are two big things wrong here: Lucha House Party had racked off a couple wins on SmackDown before being drafted to Raw, but they hadn’t done anything in the tag division since coming to the red brand, so suddenly beating the tag champs is just ridiculous (especially after being jokes in the 24/7 division before this). And secondly, why are we falling back on the trop of a tag team not being able to co-exist?

These writers are the laziest bunch of goofs imaginable.
