4 Ups And Downs From Last Night's WWE Smackdown (Mar 5)
2. A Divas Match Got A Decent Amount Of TV Time!
It's a miracle. Fans have been complaining about giving the divas more TV for years and a couple of weeks ago the #GiveDivasAChance thing started gaining steam, so it's encouraging to see that the divas match on Smackdown got nearly eight minutes. The usual time for divas matches on WWE TV is three minutes or less. Hopefully this trend of more time continues. The match saw Brie Bella take on AJ Lee with Nikki and Paige outside the ring. What was also cool about it is they were able to actually tell a story in the match. Brie was on offense for several months and her offense looks pretty good. Her trash talk could use work, but her moves are solid. When AJ made the comeback with kicks, a neckbreaker and a dropkick the crowd came alive for her. Moments later, AJ applied the Black Widow submission while Paige took care of Nikki and that led to the submission win in this match that went about eight minutes. In addition to that, the placement of this match was at the top of the second hour. That's usually the spot in the show where one of the more important segments air, so it's another sign that maybe WWE will give their divas more of a chance. It was all about evolving the story. Instead of the Bellas outsmarting another dumb face, Paige was there to help AJ. A tag match at WrestleMania between those four women makes a lot of sense although not putting the Divas Title on the line is a bit of a downer.
