4 Ups And Downs From This Week's TNA Impact Wrestling (Jan 25)

4. The Feast Or Fired Match Itself

Now this might seem like a contradiction to the last point. But in Impact€™s defence they did manage to turn chicken sh#t into chicken salad with this match. While the gimmick itself is pretty stupid and really shouldn€™t be anywhere near anymore episodes of Impact, you have to give credit to the talent €“ they really worked with something that€™s not a great idea, and put on a fantastic spot festival that was very fast paced and entertaining. There were stupid moments of course, such as Rockstar Spud clearly being tall enough to get a briefcase but having to pretend that he wasn€™t. And then there was also the strange fact that the match was incredibly short (ten minutes) considering how many people were involved. But on the whole it was a fun introduction to the show, and gave the talent of Impact a chance to showcase what they do really well, which is athletic wrestling, and incredible manoeuvres. Impact€™s strength has and always will be its exceptionally talented wrestlers who can pull of some insane manoeuvres, and can put on some wonderful spots. By opening the match with something this fast paced, while also showcasing the talent that their roster has from top to bottom, Impact made a statement. They let fans know that they wouldn€™t be witnessing twenty minute dialogues from wrestlers that were popular fifteen years ago, and that they had so much action to showcase that they had to open the show with what could often be considered a main event match. Whether or not the show lived up to the opening is debateable, but coming out of the gates strong is critical to Impact becoming the show that everyone knows it can be.
