4 Ups And Downs From This Week's TNA Impact Wrestling (Jan 25)

2. Austin Aries Getting A Second Chance

It was pretty obvious (despite the fact that it was supposed to be a surprise) that either Magnus or Austin Aries were going to get the big title shot. Giving Spud that chance would turn viewers away in droves, and it was pretty clear that Robbie E was going to get the sack €“ or there would be a swerve along the lines of that which we saw. While it would have been great to see Magnus get a chance at a second title reign, it is fair to say that Austin Aries probably deserves it more, even just because his last title reign was not exactly something to write home about. Actually that€™s really being too generous €“ his last title reign was atrocious, and he really deserves another crack to be in the spotlight, this time as a face. Impact€™s Heavyweight title picture is currently very clouded by Bobby Lashley, Bobby Roode, and then other guys surrounding these figures in factions and alliegances. The storyline is so focused on their conflict at the moment, that guys like Austin Aries haven€™t been able to squeeze in. Knowing that he has the chance to take a title shot adds another layer to the mix, and is a good reward for one of Impact€™s most loyal stalwarts, and best workers, who hasn€™t necessarily had the time in the sun he has deserved. Impact has the chance now to really add some surprising elements to their heavyweight title picture, and in a way they have a bit of an embarrassment of riches in talent vying for the title now. Feast or Fired is not a great concept, but at least we got a decent match, and we certainly got a deserving victor out of it. If that doesn€™t deserve to be considered a positive from an up and down show like this, then I don€™t know what else could be.
