41 Most Disgusting Promotional Tactics In Wrestling History RANKED
21. 2004 - The Kane Vs. Lita Feud
Why does the Katie Vick angle persist as the worst thing ever yielded from the Kane character? Is it simply easier to remember in shorthand? Is simulated necrophila a more grabby, unique thing than that which 2004 belched forth?
The Katie Vick stuff was reprehensible. This is no defence of it. But the content and implication of Kane’s 2004 run was staggeringly thoughtless and insensitive.
The basic thrust of the storyline was thus:
The Kane character fell in love with Lita, but was rejected. The Kane character then raped and impregnated Lita, who then made various attempts to force Kane into miscarrying the child. At one stage, she coaxed Kane into hitting her with the choke slam, before he figured out her plan. At SummerSlam, WWE booked a match between Kane and Matt Hardy, billed as ‘’Til Death Do Us Part’, in which Lita would have to marry her rapist in the event of his victory. Kane won. They were married. Kane, canonical rapist, then underwent a change of character. In a match with Snitsky, the new monster heel hit Kane on the back with a chair. This forced Kane to move forward and fall on Lita, forcing a miscarriage.
Kane, a rapist, was now a babyface, vowing revenge.
Snitsky, a guy who had hit someone in the back with a steel chair, was now considered worse than a rapist.
Lita later aligned with her babyface rapist.
This was a truly deplorable sequence of events that trivialised the most traumatic event a woman can ever endure - and statistically, far too many do.
