5 Best Finishers In WWE Today (And 5 Worst)
1. Worst - Knockout Punch
Being punched square in the jaw by one of the largest athletes in the world is an undeniably marketable concept. Where the Big Show's Knockout Punch falls apart is in its relationship with the rest of the card and how audiences are designed to react to other matches.
When you are being told that a superstar has the ability to knockout an opponent with one punch, you simply cant help but wonder why they don't just do that instead of going through the motions of a normal match. It raises unnecessary questions about the inherent conventions of wrestling and does more harm than good.
With a performer as unique and imposing as the Big Show, it makes perfect sense to play to their strengths and introduce a finisher that extenuates their most remarkable traits. For a time, Big Show was known for a devastating Chokeslam and later adopted a number of submissions as finishing moves. On paper, a fatal strike like the KO Punch makes sense but in practice it lacks the essential feeling of spectacle and staying power needed to captivate audiences.
As soon as opponents began kicking out of the move, it lost any lustre it once had and plateaued as a bland finisher that smacked (or punched) of a lack of creativity.
