When Power Slam launched, it was an interesting time in the wrestling industry for a lot of the talent who would go on to find success in the late 90s.
Steve Austin spoke to Fin in December 1994, when he was still a part of WCW. The company had instructed Martin to conduct the interview in a kayfabe manner and reference storylines. We made sure to be kayfabe compliant but Austin was such a laugh and said a lot of stuff that wasnt kayfabe friendly.
Stunning Steve had just had his run with Hacksaw Jim Duggan over the US Title, and the editor remembers Austins reaction very clearly, revealing that Steve was not happy losing the belt to Duggan. He suffered an injury in a rematch with Hacksaw but made it very clear he wasnt happy where his career was going in WCW.
Austin had been tossed aside in Atlanta when Hulk Hogan came in with all of his friends and demanded they got pushes, readers got a real sense of how frustrated Steve was with the situation in a rare chat where the future Stone Cold wasnt keen to tow the company line.
