5 Best Options To Dethrone Shinsuke Nakamura As NXT Champion

Somebody needs to beat him eventually, right?

At the very beginning of 2016 Shinsuke Nakamura signed with World Wrestling Entertainment. The King of Strong Style had long been the most recognisable Japanese pro-wrestler on the planet, and was touted by many as being the most likely man from the Land of the Rising Sun to seamlessly make the transition to WWE's brand of 'sports entertainment'. Nine months later, you'd have to say he's doing pretty well for himself.

Nakamura made his debut in NXT at TakeOver: Dallas in what may still be the best WWE match of 2016, a winning effort against Sami Zayn. Nakamura has been undefeated ever since, defeating Austin Aries, Finn Bálor, and Samoa Joe en route to becoming the NXT Champion. At this point, Nakamura seems totally unbeatable.

Nakamura has to lose eventually, though. Unless he makes the jump up to the main roster as champion and subsequently vacates it, someone will need to defeat Nakamura to keep the big X on NXT. With the draft robbing NXT of stars such as Bálor and, erm, Mojo Rawley, the developmental brand isn't doing the strongest job of putting forward viable options. Nakamura has arguably been booked too strongly.

Nothing in professional wrestling lasts forever however, and someone will beat Nak. Here are the five best options for that honour.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
