5 Big Things William Regal Could Announce For NXT

Intergender matches aren't something we've really seen much of in WWE.

And yet intergender bouts exist in the back catalogues of many of the current roster. Candice LeRae alone has fought Kevin Owens, Adam Cole, Cedric Alexander, Isaiah Swerve Scott, and her husband Johnny Gargano in mixed matches, and that's just the names currently in WWE. Mia Yim once faced Keith Lee in an intergender match, as terrifying as that sounds. Sami Zayn once took on Sara Del Ray, currently a trainer in NXT, in a critically acclaimed match. British Strong Style once took on the Sendai Girls.

While true intergender matches seem a long way off in WWE, the Mixed Match Challenge series a few years ago put a fun spin on these matches that allowed performers to show off their characters a bit more. Brought back as a mid-year event akin to the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic, this is something that could help NXT stand apart from AEW, RAW and SmackDown that little bit more.

That it's a stepping stone to an eventual War Games match that brilliantly pits The Way versus Mei Ling's Dragon stable is just a bonus.
