5 Biggest Winners & Losers From WWE No Mercy 2016
2. Alexa Bliss
Alexa Bliss was supposed to have the biggest match of her young career last night. She’d earned the right to challenge for Becky Lynch’s SmackDown Women’s Championship, and after weeks of bullying Becky, she’d step out to justify her “paper champion” claims on the big stage, and quell Lynch’s Irish fire once and for all.
Becky’s unfortunate health situation deprived her of that opportunity, and Alexa Bliss went from challenging for the Women’s Title to losing to a last minute replacement. Daniel Bryan promised her a match, Naomi was served up as her new replacement, and in the night’s drabbest match, Alexa was pinned.
Her title match has been rescheduled for November, but No Mercy saw Bliss lose much of her momentum. Instead of continuing her build as a dangerous threat to Becky’s belt, WWE sacrificed Bliss with a fluke loss that helps Naomi, but discredits the woman whose supposed to be the division’s chief antagonist.
Alexa’s reaction will be interesting. She’s a fierce, impetuous competitor whose track record suggest she won’t take it lying down, and with Becky out of the picture, Naomi will likely remain in his crosshairs. Perhaps she’ll take this loss back before finally wrestling Lynch, but for now, Alexa Bliss’ No Mercy loss represents a big momentum hit.
