5 Biggest Winners & Losers From WWE Raw (29 Aug)

3. Winner: Sheamus

Sheamus has been in an uninspiring spot for a while now. Nobody wanted to see him win last year’s Money in the Bank briefcase, even fewer people wanted him to become WWE Champion again, and the League of Nations all but killed fans’ desire to see him ever again. The big Irishman became an unwanted presence on WWE television: the company had all but destroyed his heat, and each subsequent booking only made things worse.

There’s still a lot of work to be done, and Sheamus is far from close to full rehabilitation, but he’s finally making steps in the right direction. He’s an underrated wrestler and a good heel who benefits most when able to work hard-hitting matches against capable opponents, which makes the Cesaro series perfect for him.

Sheamus picked up the victory to go 2-0 in their Best of Seven last night, and he’s finally starting to resemble something close to an interesting performer again.

It’s likely that we’re heading to Sheamus going 3-0 before Cesaro completes an almighty comeback, and that’s fine. Cesaro is one of Raw’s most popular wrestlers at this point and Sheamus has already had his time in the sun. WWE need to promote the more popular wrestler as a big deal who’s capable of reaching-out for the proverbial brass ring, but a series of five more strong in-ring performances will be a great boon to Sheamus’ ongoing revival.
