5 Biggest Winners & Losers From WWE Raw (8 Aug)

2. Winner: Cesaro

Cesaro went 1-1 on last night’s Raw by defeating Sheamus, but losing his United States Championship match to Rusev in the main event. Despite his mixed record, these were comfortably the most enjoyable matches of the night, with the rest failing to excite and engage. Cesaro continues to be featured increasingly prominently since his post-Draft shoot outburst, and with the Sheamus feud seemingly set to continue, there’s plenty more to come from him.

Saying that The Swiss Superman had a “good match” is almost moot at this point. Cesaro’s so skilled between the ropes that he could probably wrestle a fun TV match in his sleep at this point, and there are seemingly no opponents that he’s incapable of excelling against. His contributions this week were a welcome break from the 2-3 minute back-and-forths that occupied much of Raw’s in-ring product this week, and if Cesaro keeps delivering like this on a weekly basis, the Cesaro Section will continue to grow.

He loses very little momentum after falling in the main event, either. Sheamus played a huge role on the match’s outcome by booting Cesaro in the head prior to the finish, giving The Swiss Superman a convenient excuse without losing any forward motion. He matched Rusev hold-for-hold up until that point, and even had the Bulgarian locked in a potentially match-ending Sharpshooter when Sheamus interjected. Fingers crossed he gets another opportunity at the US gold, this time without interference.
