The road from NXT to main roster has been a rocky one, with many seemingly surefire superstars since falling by the wayside. On the strength of his work and presentation so far, though, you’d bet on Damian Priest bucking the trend.

He couldn’t have asked for much better a start, appearing in the Royal Rumble and nabbing a respectable four eliminations before being tied to Bad Bunny for the next few months. The Puerto Rican rapper astounded wrestling fans worldwide with his WrestleMania match, and Priest got a healthy dose of the rub as his tag partner.

From there, it has been a steady climb for the archer of infamy. He made easy work of The Miz and John Morrison, took the US championship from Sheamus at SummerSlam, and has kept in the picture with an invitational challenge ever since. It’s simple, effective booking, and Priest has the presence and skill to make it work.

At 39 years old, if Priest’s going to take a stab at the main event he needs to do it sooner rather than later, but the measured pace of his rise has made acclimatising from NXT look easy.
