5 Early Successes Of Triple H's Run As Head Of WWE Creative (And 5 Failures)
7. Success - Salvaging Of Gimmicks
One of the very obvious criticisms that was levelled at Vince McMahon was his butchering of fan favourite characters. Not just because the fan's were upset by it, but because it just didn't make sense.
Why on earth would you turn Pete Dunne into a Scrappy Doo/Peaky Blinders hybrid? In what conceivable world, would a badass like Shayna Baszler run away from a doll? Why would you ever pivot away from the obvious money that is the 'Prizefighter' Kevin Owens? Also, why the hell would you take a believable bully like Karrion Kross and turn him into a gimp?
None of it made sense, and there are countless more examples that Triple H isn't in the position to fix. Remember 'Bearcat' Keith Lee? Like the restoration of the first names, reverting back to what got these superstars over in the first place is a slam dunk and one that the former Terra Ryzin has quickly put into action.
Kevin Owens even said it himself. He's been without a belt for five years and re-christened himself as the 'Prizefighter' to deafening cheers. Baszler has reverted to type, ripping through the competition, and Pete Dunne is now Butch only in name. He even has his singlet back.
Re-establishing these acts has been swift and successful and instantly made the produce more watchable. Who would have thought two months ago that Karrion Kross would be in the WWE main event scene? Kudos to Triple H on that one.
