5 Huge Dolph Ziggler WWE Moments That Never Went Anywhere

2. Dolph Ziggler Turns Face - Payback 2013

Dolph's return from his concussion wasn't without its drama. Initially, he had been slated to take on Alberto Del Rio and Jack Swagger in a triple threat match, but in his absence, Del Rio and Swagger battled for sole number one contendership, and Del Rio was victorious. Now, there would be a one on one confrontation with a built-in backstory. Dolph and Del Rio met at Payback, and surprisingly, the babyface Del Rio targeted Ziggler's head with the intent of inflicting another concussion. The World Heavyweight Champion kept in the fight, though, and before long, even the most anti-Ziggler fans were rooting for him to overcome the odds. Meanwhile, Del Rio's bully-like behavior made him a heel once more. He finally pinned Dolph with a kick to the head, and the double turn was executed flawlessly. Common logic would dictate that Dolph, now a popular babyface, would soon win the World Heavyweight Championship back from Del Rio. They clashed in a rematch at Money in the Bank 2013, but interference from AJ Lee gave Del Rio the disqualification win. Dolph dumped AJ, she cost him another rematch with Del Rio, and Dolph's flirtation with the World Heavyweight Title was over.
