The ongoing love triangle storyline involving Rusev, Lana, and Bobby Lashley has become the talk of the wrestling world. Of course, as long-time wrestling fans well know, three-way love stories often generate plenty of buzz.

One of the reasons these romantically linked trios work in pro wrestling is the range of emotions the audience feels while watching their stories unfold.

Shocked, uncomfortable, and sometimes even bewildered are all perfectly normal reactions to a good old fashioned WWE on-screen love triangle. However, for better or worse, it's the truly bizarre storylines, the ones that leave fans bewildered, which are often the most memorable.

Over the years, the creative minds at WWE have crafted some of the strangest romantic tales ever seen on the small screen. In many cases, these stories involve unlikely trios and go so far off the rails that they are forever etched in wrestling public's collective conscious.

To celebrate these twisted tales, we are going to relive five classic love triangles that took viewers places they had never been before — even if they ultimately regretted making the trip.

Perhaps the most talked-about wrestling love triangle of the 1980s involved Randy Savage, George 'The Animal' Steele, and Elizabeth.

The storyline got going when Steele, whose character was that of a mentally distraught individual, decided to show up and kidnap Elizabeth. In truth, having a mad man appear ringside and randomly whisk a young woman away certainly qualifies as strange in of itself.

However, it was the ambiguous nature of 'The Animal's' infatuation that made the angle truly bizarre. It was never clear if Steele cared for Elizabeth in a romantic sense or if he loved her the way a small child loves their favorite teddy bear.

The triangle had the makings of a fascinatingly complex story, which 1980s wrestling fans probably wouldn't have been ready for. That being said, the legendary threesome still managed to use the quirky tale to set up a memorable WrestleMania match at least.
