5 Most Insane Things Happening In Wrestling Right Now (Dec 8)
1. Optimism, Or Delusion?
Rumours are swirling that 205 Live is about to embark on the live event circuit, despite the fact that hardly anybody gives a whiff of a sh*t about it.
This is strange news. Obviously, these mooted shows aren't arena-sized, but still - the brand has as much cache among the hardcore fanbase as it does with the casuals, who react to the Cruiserweights on RAW as if they've just been bound and gagged. The idea of 205 Live striking out on its own - when WWE has to trick fans into watching for free by saving a SmackDown star for a dark match - is ludicrous.
WWE obviously feels the need to try something. Maybe the plan is to develop a cult following through earning rave reviews on a house show circuit not beholden to the usual TV regulation - before not altering the unremarkable televised style because Vince McMahon won't allow it. Besides which, Enzo Amore remains the focal point of the brand, so the prospect of a new, actually really good 205 Live seems bleak.
"Buy a ticket to watch exciting Cruiserweight wrestling better than it is on TV...starring Enzo Amore, one of the worst workers on the roster" is not an ideal sales pitch.
