5 Most Insane Things Happening In Wrestling Right Now (March 29)

1. Cruel Season

WrestleMania is the season in which, to the detriment of the show itself, Vince McMahon’s small heart grows three sizes bigger. Well, it’s probably massive in a physical sense, thanks to Dr. Zahorian, but you get the analogy.

He makes sure all of his talent appears on it, which will prove problematic on April 7 given the spiteful signing spree of the last couple of years. And so, ahead of this deathbed repentance, he unleashed his streak of unconscionable cruelty on SmackDown.

This manifested as hilarity and heartbreak.

WWE, as is customary when teasing a showdown, had a gang of imported Independent wrestler dorks flank Shane McMahon…and some dudes dressed up as security. Conflating SAnitY with some novices they paid about $500, Killian Dain et al. put up as much of a fight when throwing down with The Miz, who is a badass now. This was a stunningly, stunningly spiteful—and deeply unnecessary—burial. The unhinged SAnitY faction followed management orders and were swatted away like little pissants. Cue chin-stroking face emoji tweets about what the f*ck has happened to their careers.

Altogether less funny was the treatment of Asuka, who lost the SmackDown Women’s Championship to Charlotte Flair. This isn’t the end of her run or the world or anything like that, but Jesus Christ.

The title is meaningless, but you don’t confirm this, godd*mn.
