5 New CM Punk Quotes That Add Insight Into His WWE And UFC Careers
3. He Won't Be Thanking God After A Fight
CM Punk is not a religious man, and that's probably not a surprise for anyone who has been paying attention. He also has similar beliefs, it seems, to Chael Sonnen (who is a religious man) when it comes to thanking God after a fight. Sonnen once questioned whether God would care about a borderline illegal fight in a cage. Punk echoed those sentiments, saying
If there is a God, and I'm an atheist, I don't believe there is, I think he has better things to do than worry about what somebody's doing for 15 minutes in a cage. I'd like to see people thank their coaches more than Jesus; I just think it's a weird thing to do.
This is an interesting point. Fighters, if interviewed at all after a bout, have a limited amount of airtime, most of which is answering pointed questions from whatever commentator is handling the interview. There's usually a moment to say "I want to thank..." and while many do thank their coaches, it's usually a rushed affair. Yet fighters seem to be an especially religious bunch, and Jesus comes up more than any other name.
