5 Positives & 5 Negatives Ahead Of Brock Lesnar Vs. Goldberg

8. Negative - Trying To Get Minneapolis To Boo Lesnar

By and large, I’d say that the build to Lesnar vs. Goldberg has been executed pretty well. However, one glaring negative along the way was the story that the writers tried to tell in the Oct. 24 showing of Raw that came to us from Minneapolis.

Minneapolis just so happens to be the very city from which Lesnar is billed. And yet, the powers the be thought it’d be a good idea to completely ignore this minor detail and push Lesnar as the bad guy so as to preserve Goldberg’s superhero status.

You can certainly see the logic here; Goldberg’s return the week prior had seen him portray as pure a babyface as you’ll ever see, hugging children, popping the crowd, and promising to take out the big, bad beast Brock Lesnar. Naturally it would be difficult to erase all of that. But to have Paul Heyman come out and tell the crowd to stop cheering for Goldberg, when they weren’t even doing that in the first place, just seemed to be slightly ridiculous and a piece of fairly poor planning. In the end the segment was awkwardly cut short, largely on account of the script being so wildly at odds with what was actually going down in the arena.

I guess their hands were tied by the schedule somewhat, but even so, surely there was a better way of booking this show?
