5 Positives & 5 Negatives For WWE From Donald Trump's Election Victory
6. Negative: McMahons May Become Side-Tracked Once Again
It cannot be overstated that Vince McMahon has always wanted his pro-wrestling organization to be accepted by the major news outlets of the United States. In fact, Vince would probably be satisfied if just he, himself, was as accepted as a creative and entertainment genius by those outside of professional wrestling as those within the industry.
It's for this reason that Vince has never been able to "stick to pro-wrestling" and has poured millions of dollars into non-wrestling business ventures that ultimately failed. In the early '90s, Vince thought he could make the world of professional bodybuilding into a popular entertainment genre and thus, the World Bodybuilding Federation (WBF) was born.
In 2001, in conjunction with Dick Ebersol and NBC, McMahon attempted to create a second American football league called the XFL. The Xtreme Football League lasted one season before NBC pulled the plug, eventually causing McMahon to dump the idea altogether.
There's been other failed ventures before (Evel Knievel) and after (WWE Films), but the WBF and XFL stand out as the two biggest eyesores on Vince McMahon's non-wrestling ventures scorecard. With the connection to Trump and a renewed air of confidence bordering on arrogance, McMahon may look to once again step outside the world of wrestling to attempt to parlay his friendship with the President of the United States.
History has told us this won't end well for WWE.
